The Vision

What if I told you I knew exactly what I wanted for myself. When I close my eyes this vision is what I see every time. If someone asked me what I wanted in the future this would be my answer without hesitation.

This is a rough summary so bare with me.

When I was younger I always loved horses, don’t know why, just one of those random things. When I was around 13 years old my grandma took me to her friend’s house. This woman owns horses right in her yard. She has children too, and I’ll never forget how jealous I was that the kids got to grow up looking out their window to see horses. You always want what you can’t have. In Africa I went horseback riding a couple times, and it made me realize how much I enjoyed it. Ever since those moments, that’s just something I knew I needed. Yeah, real life horses. I see a house. A cute one, my imagination isn’t too picky on how it actually looks just yet. Side note, I will have a weeping willow growing somewhere on my property. No ifs, ands, or buts, on that one. Obviously cats. Gotta have cats. I’ll be honest, if I can work from home I’d never complain a day in my life (I will obviously still find things to complain about). Definitely lots of yoga. I can do yoga for hours, but ask me to run a mile and I’ll tell you I accidentally glued my whole body to the wall while doing arts and crafts so I can’t. Thank you though.

Of course, I still have no idea what I want to do, so right now I just keep trying to imagine myself in different careers around this dream life I’ve created in my head. It’s honestly helping a lot. I recommend you try it.

Pick a couple things that you know you are going to want for the rest of your life, or at least at some point in your future. Throw all different scenarios around it and actually physically try new things that interest you until something just clicks.

Now, what if I told you I have NO idea how to achieve this. I have no idea how to make this a reality for myself. Even though I want it so bad, I still draw blanks on the path to get there.

So, like every blogger, I put together this list of steps to follow to help keep things on the right path.

First things First- Keep your damn job. The most important thing is to make sure you always have some form of income coming in, and to make sure your saving as much as you can. I recently created a second savings account that automatically takes $100 from my one account and transfers it to the other once a month. I don’t touch this new savings account.

Second- Mediate. Meditating helps reduce stress, helps you feel more connected to yourself and your surroundings, and helps you appreciate life more. Reaching goals won’t be easy at times, and having something like this could recharge you. A movement mediation is also just as beneficial. If this is something you struggle with, try using an app. I’ve been using headspace and it really helps.

Third- Join Communities. Literally find other people who love what you love. I just typed “horse pages” on facebook and there is now an endless horse feed. Join facebook pages, follow people that inspire you on social media, and take risks. For example, next week I should go take horseback riding lessons.

Fourth- Read, read, read. Anything related to what you’re  interested in. Books obviously. But change it up, find magazines, daily columns, find a blog that is an expert on the topic, maybe even try to get your hands on a textbook with the information you like.

Fifth- Sorry for this cliche one, but to save no room for bad thoughts. This is something I struggle with a lot. I think of an idea and then think of all the things that can go wrong. My boss caught on to this and told me that I need to just start doing something and not give myself the chance to find all the negative. As much as there can be wrong there will be right.

Ok and what if I said I’m well aware of how crazy this may sound to some of you. But honestly, for the people who may be laughing at this “vision” or the ones who tell me “good luck” in a sarcastic way, take offense, because you are the worst. Sometimes thinking so far out of the box and reaching out of your comfort zone are the best things you could ever do for yourself. I need to figure that out on my own and learn from my own growth. As do you, so don’t let anything or anyone change what you feel is right.
